Dental cavities are a common problem that develop when bacteria attacks your enamel on your teeth. Previously, cavities were treated with an amalgam material, a combination of metals like mercury or silver. We now know that these fillings don't adhere very well with the enamel and the mercury can be hazardous to your overall health. At East Haddam Dental Associates in Moodus, CT, our talented team of dentists uses tooth-colored fillings made with a composite resin to fill cavities and protect the tooth. We can also take out metal fillings and apply composite resin fillings for a more reliable and attractive cavity treatment.
"I have been a patient of East Haddam Dental for very many years. I have at all times been treated courteously and professionally. Dr. Stofko and now Dr. Goldman have tended to my teeth with a maximum of skill and a minimum of pain. Dr. Pear has also pitched in in their absence when I had an emergency that could not wait. I have never had an issue with the front desk staff. When I have a problem with a tooth they are always sympathetic and do their best to get me an early appointment to get it fixed. As for wait time, my experience is that I'm usually seated within a few minutes of my appointment. On those rare occasions where I did have to wait it was only for 15 minutes or so. I always figured the Doctor was backed up because someone needed extra help and I was just happy not to be that person. Needless to say I am pleased with the quality of care I've received and intend to stay with East Haddam Dental for the foreseeable future."- T.B. / Yelp / Jul 28, 2018

"I got a flyer in the mail for this office and lo and behold a month later I had a filling fall out. I called the dentist in Bloomfield that I had been going to since I was a child and the new dentist was not as accommodating as the prior one and he would not see me. I called up East Haddam Dental since I got their flyer and they were located in my neighborhood. I got right in, explained my anxiety to Dr. Goldberg he was very understanding. The staff was wonderful as was Dr. Goldberg. I have been going every since and highly recommend them."- C.R. / Yelp / Feb 11, 2020

Composite resin tooth-colored fillings usually cover the decayed area in the tooth once it is treated. Composite resin is a useful material that may be used to address other issues with your teeth, such as chips or excessive wear by bruxism (teeth grinding). Since the material is tinted to blend with your teeth, fillings may be placed on the back and front teeth for a great finish. If you have amalgam fillings, talk to us about getting them taken out and re-done with composite resin.
What To Expect
Receiving a tooth-colored filling at East Haddam Dental Associates is usually a simple procedure. The treatment area will be numbed to help you feel more comfortable. Stronger sedation methods may be considered for any fears or anxieties to keep you relaxed. After you're ready, the infected enamel can be cleared away using a dental drill that our dentists will choose based upon the location of the cavity and the amount of decay. Once the enamel is treated and the area is disinfected, the area will be replaced with the composite resin and set. We will then smooth the filling material so it matches your other teeth.
You will be able to return to your day once your tooth-colored filling is complete, but you may notice a sensitivity to cold and hot food and beverages for 1 – 3 days. You can use nonprescription pain medication to treat discomfort; however, you shouldn't experience any serious problems. If your filling seems high or uneven, please call us. Your filling should be cleaned by following a regular home care routine including daily flossing and brushing. At your annual exam, we will check your filling to determine if it should be replaced or repaired.
Composite resin fillings are a standard treatment for dental cavities that is typically covered partially by insurance. A team member will talk to your dental insurance company to understand your coverage so we can calculate your bill. If you don't have dental insurance, we will discuss the payment methods we accept at your appointment, plus information on medical financing.
