Gum Disease and Gingivitis Moodus, CT

Overview

Gum (periodontal) disease is a condition of inflammation in the gums, which may lead to significant damage to your oral health. There are several phases of periodontal disease that range from mild to severe. The very first phase is gingivitis, which is brought on by plaque buildup under the gumline. Without treatment, gingivitis may develop into the next phase, called periodontitis, which impacts the fibers and bone that support your tooth roots. Advanced periodontitis is the last phase of periodontal disease, which may cause loose or lost teeth. To deal with gum disease, East Haddam Dental Associates provides both surgical and nonsurgical treatments based on the intensity of the disease, such as antibiotics, scaling and root planing, gum grafts, gum surgery, as well as extractions. When you have symptoms of a periodontal infection, get in touch with our office in Moodus, CT to schedule an examination with one of our skilled and highly trained dentists.

Best Candidates

Gingivitis (the earliest stage of gum disease) isn't easy to discover by yourself, which is the reason why it's very important to schedule yearly dental examinations at East Haddam Dental Associates. This provides us with a chance to check your gums so we can recognize and address the problem before it affects your mouth and general well-being. As periodontal disease gets worse, signs will include swollen or red gums, bleeding due to regular flossing and brushing, a separated or receded gumline, and chronic halitosis (bad breath). At the subsequent phases of periodontal disease, you can also feel pain when chewing and sensitivity to cold and hot foods. It's necessary to schedule an appointment if you're seeing any of these signs, so the disease can be addressed before it gets into your bloodstream.

What to Expect

Your treatment for gum disease will be based on the intensity of the disease. If we determine you have periodontal disease, we will discuss our suggestions for your treatment program. In cases caught early, scaling and root planing (SRP) is usually done to clean out your gum pockets. In more serious cases, antibiotics can be taken along with numerous SRP procedures. Acute cases of gum disease normally call for gum surgery like pocket reduction or gum grafting.

I have been a patient of East Haddam Dental for very many years. I have at all times been treated courteously and professionally. Dr. Stofko and now Dr. Goldman have tended to my teeth with a maximum of skill and a minimum of pain. Dr. Pear has also pitched in in their absence when I had an emergency that could not wait. I have never had an issue with the front desk staff. When I have a problem with a tooth they are always sympathetic and do their best to get me an early appointment to get it fixed. As for wait time, my experience is that I'm usually seated within a few minutes of my appointment. On those rare occasions where I did have to wait it was only for 15 minutes or so. I always figured the Doctor was backed up because someone needed extra help and I was just happy not to be that person. Needless to say I am pleased with the quality of care I've received and intend to stay with East Haddam Dental for the foreseeable future.

Dr Goldman, Holly, Veronica & the receptionist, Sherry are all wonderful. Sherry is so friendly and always willing to help! They are all kind and caring. Veronica, the hygenist and Dr. Goldman are both extremely gentle with my sensitive gums. Holly, the assistant, keeps me informed the whole time and is always willing to hold my hand (regardless of me being an adult) for the novacaine shots. They make going to the dentist (which I depise) a better experience. I highly recommend this office.

Fantastic. Was very surprised that Dr Goldman could save my teeth as other offices couldn’t and yanked a bunch out. Wish I came here sooner 🤣 everyone was extremely kind, highly recommend 🙂

Recovery

Based upon the stage of gum disease and treatment program, your recovery period will be different. You might need to have a number of appointments at East Haddam Dental Associates to completely correct your periodontal disorder. After your dental health is restored, you must continue attending regular dental exams and cleanings at East Haddam Dental Associates. It's also wise to keep up a daily home dental hygiene regimen, including flossing and brushing. We may suggest an antibacterial mouthwash or toothpaste to reduce your chance of developing another periodontal disorder.

Insurance Coverage

Expenses for gum disease therapy will vary based upon the seriousness of the illness as well as the processes required. If you are using dental insurance, then our office will talk to your insurance provider to ascertain what they pay and if there'll be any extra expenses. For patients with no insurance, East Haddam Dental Associates takes many payments and we will be able to help you to find medical financing. Questions about costs? Please speak to us during your private consultation. Not going to the dentist due to fiscal concerns can lead to larger problems and much more costly therapies.
