Overview
The grinding of your teeth at night, also known as bruxism, is an everyday issue that affects many individuals. Although the most prominent symptom is deterioration of the enamel of the teeth, nocturnal bruxism may also lead to tooth pain, headaches, and inflammation, as well as discomfort in your neck and jaw. To guard your mouth from the effects of bruxism, our experienced team of dentists provides customized night guards that help defend your teeth while you rest. Custom night guards are created with high-grade materials that comfortably fit in your mouth and improve the nature of your sleep by eliminating jaw clenching and teeth grinding. Best Candidates
A number of indicators may suggest that you are clenching your jaw and/or grinding your teeth at night. Maybe you frequently wake up in the morning with pain in your jaw, a headache, and facial swelling. Other symptoms are loosened fillings or teeth, chipped enamel on your back teeth, a receding gumline, and tooth sensitivity. Grinding and clenching at night are usually caused by stress, but can also be brought on by a sleep disorder, misaligned teeth, allergies or temporomandibular joint disorder (called TMD). While we make your bruxism diagnosis, we will also find out the culprit so that your night guard therapy can be coupled with other treatments for the best possible outcomes.
What to Expect
After we make your diagnosis, we will obtain oral impressions and digital oral x-rays to help create your custom night guard. Next, we will send these details to the dental laboratory where your specialized night guard will be made from the best materials. After your night guard is complete and sent back to us, we will inform you so you can come in for a fitting. Our team can make small adjustments so that it fits correctly. You will also be given directions on how to properly care for your night guard so it will last many years.
East Haddam Dental Associates Reviews
I have been a patient of East Haddam Dental for very many years. I have at all times been treated courteously and professionally. Dr. Stofko and now Dr. Goldman have tended to my teeth with a maximum of skill and a minimum of pain. Dr. Pear has also pitched in in their absence when I had an emergency that could not wait. I have never had an issue with the front desk staff. When I have a problem with a tooth they are always sympathetic and do their best to get me an early appointment to get it fixed. As for wait time, my experience is that I'm usually seated within a few minutes of my appointment. On those rare occasions where I did have to wait it was only for 15 minutes or so. I always figured the Doctor was backed up because someone needed extra help and I was just happy not to be that person. Needless to say I am pleased with the quality of care I've received and intend to stay with East Haddam Dental for the foreseeable future.
East Haddam Dental was great! I haven't been to a dentist in 8 years. Sherry the front desk assistant was so wonderful! I was worried about making an appointment due to having a 1.5year old and being a stay at home therefore having to plan for child care. She assured me that my daughter wouldn't be a problem and that if needed she would hang out with her while I got my health back up to date! She's so kind and really made me feel seen as a mother who like other often puts my own needs on the back burner. She made it a point to make sure I am able to get caught up with my dental and I'm so thankful for that!Next the dental assistant was very nice and helped explain the situation to me without making me feel like a burden for not understand and being scared.Lastly, Dr B was so informative and straight forward with me about what my options were, the cost, the risks, and covered all the bases for questions I didn't know I would have needed to ask. He sat face to face with me and really made me feel less anxious. Having severe anxiety with the dentist in general I am so grateful Dr B seen I was not scared and did what he could to help subside my worries and make me as comfortable as possible.I highly recommend this dentist!!!Thank you all for making me feel seen, heard, and understood exactly what I needed out of my appointment.
I had two wisdom teeth pulled by Dr. Barghaza and he was fantastic. He cared…didn’t even feel the needle…and had a fantastic bedside manner. Will use no one else!
The staff are great and they do great work here
The whole team at East Haddam Dental is just phenomenal. From Sherry the receptionist to Dr Goldman, they all really do care and make you feel safe and heard. Lydia who did my dental cleaning was really fabulous, and I didn’t catch the name of the kind woman assisting Dr. Goldman as he did my filling today but she was very informative and helpful. Thank you guys for helping me face my fear of going to the dentist! 💕

Follow-Up
For maximum night guard efficiency, you will need to wear it each night. Your night guard should relieve or alleviate the discomfort and dental issues created by bruxism, but if it does not, please call our team so we can consider additional issues and try other therapies. In order to help keep your night guard and mouth in good condition, we recommend that you clean and care for both prior to and following each use. Be sure to bring your night guard to all future appointments, exams, and cleanings so we can repair and adjust the guard as needed.
Insurance Coverage
Once you receive a bruxism diagnosis, some of the cost of your night guard might be paid by your insurance company. If you carry dental insurance, our team will call your insurance carrier to obtain your cost and coverage. At your consult, we will give you information about our accepted payment methods as well as your costs, with or without insurance. For more affordable dental care, East Haddam Dental Associates can help you to qualify for medical financing.
