Overview
Sealants are a simple, secure treatment to protect your teeth from decay and cavities beyond home oral care. Sealants are thin, flexible, plastic materials that can be put on the tops of your back teeth (molars and premolars). Once they're placed, sealants block plaque, tartar, bacteria, and food particles to protect from several problems, such as cavities. Dental sealants may stay on for many years with proper care including a regular oral hygiene routine at home. Dental sealants not only maintain the health of your mouth and lower the risk of dental cavities, but they may also save you from expensive treatments at your annual dental exams at East Haddam Dental Associates. Talk to us at your dental exam in our Moodus, CT office to help you decide if dental sealants are a good choice for your family. Our skilled team of dentists will be happy to provide a recommendation.
Best Candidates for Dental Sealants
Good candidates for sealants are patients who are prone to developing cavities or tooth decay. In many cases, dental sealants are suggested for younger children and teens who may not have a regular oral hygiene routine. The application of dental sealants is a simple, fast treatment that generally doesn't need sedation or anesthesia, making it a great procedure for all ages.
What to Expect
At your consult, we will first examine your teeth to decide if dental sealants are right for you. Before the application, we will clean your teeth to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar. Next, we will brush on the sealant and set the material using a light. After the application is set, we will check if your dental sealant is in the correct position.
East Haddam Dental Associates Reviews
I have been a patient of East Haddam Dental for very many years. I have at all times been treated courteously and professionally. Dr. Stofko and now Dr. Goldman have tended to my teeth with a maximum of skill and a minimum of pain. Dr. Pear has also pitched in in their absence when I had an emergency that could not wait. I have never had an issue with the front desk staff. When I have a problem with a tooth they are always sympathetic and do their best to get me an early appointment to get it fixed. As for wait time, my experience is that I'm usually seated within a few minutes of my appointment. On those rare occasions where I did have to wait it was only for 15 minutes or so. I always figured the Doctor was backed up because someone needed extra help and I was just happy not to be that person. Needless to say I am pleased with the quality of care I've received and intend to stay with East Haddam Dental for the foreseeable future.
Dr Goldman, Holly, Veronica & the receptionist, Sherry are all wonderful. Sherry is so friendly and always willing to help! They are all kind and caring. Veronica, the hygenist and Dr. Goldman are both extremely gentle with my sensitive gums. Holly, the assistant, keeps me informed the whole time and is always willing to hold my hand (regardless of me being an adult) for the novacaine shots. They make going to the dentist (which I depise) a better experience. I highly recommend this office.
Fantastic. Was very surprised that Dr Goldman could save my teeth as other offices couldn’t and yanked a bunch out. Wish I came here sooner 🤣 everyone was extremely kind, highly recommend 🙂
I have never been so happy with a cleaning in any of my experiences- I absolutely recommend this practice! All staff were so friendly and knowledgeable.
I've had two cleanings here since 2023, and I've enjoyed each visit. The practice is located in a non-congested area, more rural than urban. My hygienist has worked incredibly well with my sensitive teeth and receding gums, and the cleanings have been near painless. I've found everyone there to be kind and companionable.

Follow-Up
After your treatment, you will be free to resume your regular day. It's important for you to develop a good home oral care plan, including brushing your teeth two times every day, along with mouthwash and flossing. You should try to avoid putting heavy pressure on your back teeth or consuming foods that are sticky. With good care, dental sealants may last for years. At your dental examination at East Haddam Dental Associates, our dentists will decide if your dental sealants should be applied again.
Insurance Coverage
Dental sealants are a preventive treatment and many dental insurance companies pay for some of the cost in children. Coverage can vary, particularly in adults, so we will figure out your coverage by calling your insurance company and then letting you know your costs. East Haddam Dental Associates takes many methods of payment and we can assist you with low-interest medical financing.
